eye cream It’s been said that the eyes are the window to the soul.  Unfortunately, as we age, the skin becomes thinner, drier and more susceptible to signs of aging.  Additional exposure to UV rays, environmental pollutants, poor eating habits, a stressful lifestyle and a host of other sources, both internal and external, can accelerate the aging process of the skin.  The skin around the eyes is much thinner and more delicate than the skin on the rest of the face, with little to no fat underneath, so the eye area is not only a reflection of the soul, but also the first reflection of the aging process.

Because of the eye areas’ vulnerability, it is extra important to take care of the skin surrounding the eyes. The thin layers of skin on and around our eyes may tend to show our age first, but with a good quality eye cream we can stop the first signs of aging before it starts.

Why not just use your regular facial moisturizer around the eyes?  For several reasons:

  1. Regular anti-wrinkle creams are developed to penetrate deep into the skin. If we were to use these around our eyes, the super thin skin, and even the eyes themselves, may become irritated and red.
  2. A top quality eye wrinkle cream will help correct more than just wrinkles. A good anti-aging cream will help clear away dark circles and bags under the eyes as well.  Some even contain reflecting ingredients that immediately conceal many of the problems.
  3. Eye wrinkle creams are more effective at fighting wrinkles than a regular facial cream. The special ingredients in eye creams and gels, such as COQ10, retinol and hyaluronic acid can visibly reduce the signs of aging within days.
  4. Anti-wrinkle eye creams have been highly tested to ensure that they won’t cause damage to our eyes. Regular creams aren’t specifically tested for eye safety.

This is not the area to skimp!  While more cost-effective, drugstore eye creams may have ingredients that can irritate or dry out this already-delicate area, or contain too little of the ingredients that are beneficial. For best results, consult your skin care professional for a recommendation for the product that works best for you.
